The Benefits of Taking TaeKwonDo
The Benefits of Taking Taekwondo
Now that I’m in my 60s, I find myself thinking less about
just adding years and more about how to make those years worth living. It’s not
only about staying alive longer but about staying active, mobile, and strong
enough to actually enjoy life.
My path into fitness has been gradual. Back in my 50s I
started running. At first it was just about building endurance and getting my
heart stronger. Over time I noticed real . changes.more energy, better stamina,
and even improvements in my VO₂ max, which is a fancy way of saying my aerobic
health was improving in a way that’s tied to long-term well-being.
But as the years went on, I couldn’t ignore the muscle loss
creeping in, especially around my core and shoulders. That’s when I picked up
weight training. It gave me back strength I was missing, helped my posture, and
gave me the stability I needed for other activities.
The biggest shift though didn’t come until my 60s, when I
walked into Master Kang’s Miracle Taekwondo School in Parsippany and Rockaway.
Taekwondo with Master Kang has been a game changer. It’s not
just about learning how to kick or perform a form. It’s about training body and
mind together so you can thrive as you age. The stretching and dynamic
movements have given me flexibility I thought I had lost. My balance is
stronger than it’s been in years, which matters a lot as we get older and the
risk of falls goes up. And I’ve even regained explosive power .. that quick
burst of speed and purpose most people assume is gone forever after a certain
age.
There’s also something deeper than the physical changes. The
sense of community at Master Kang’s schools is hard to put into words. You step
into the dojang and you feel part of something bigger. Kids, teens, adults ..we’re
all there together. The atmosphere is supportive, respectful, and motivating.
That fellowship has been just as important for me as the training itself.
For anyone who wants to age well, stay strong, and be part
of a positive community, I can honestly recommend Master Kang’s Miracle
Taekwondo School. It’s never too late to start. I started in my 60s, and I can
say without hesitation it has been one of the best decisions of my life.
